“What if the friction itself is telling you something?”
— Claudia Cimenti
A note to my readers:
Yes, I am still using em-dashes in my writing.
Not all em-dashes come from AI.
I've been noticing something lately in leadership conversations. We talk a lot about clarity, confidence, and conviction, which we can all agree are essential. But there's a fourth piece we don't name as often: the capacity to stay present when things get uncomfortable.
You know the feeling. A meeting where everyone's nodding, but the energy feels off. A decision that looks right on paper, but something nags at you. Team members who agree out loud but don't quite lean in.
Most leaders either push through it or smooth it over. Neither really works.
What if the friction itself is telling you something? Not every tension is productive, sure. But the ones that keep showing up... aren't those worth paying particular attention to?
Some of the sharpest insights come from asking, "What's this trying to point me toward?"
In case you don't know me yet: I work with leaders who want to get better at navigating these moments. Building the courage to stay with friction long enough to figure out what it means.
What's one place you've noticed tension lately that you haven't quite figured out yet?
